Thyroid Blood Tests

Hypothyroidism, more commonly known as an underactive thyroid, is when the body does not have sufficient thyroid hormones to efficiently run the body’s metabolism. People suffering from hypothyroidism will have symptoms associated with a slow metabolism.

'It has been noted that as many as 10% of women may have some degree of thyroid hormone deficiency.'

Hyperthyroidism simply means that the thyroid gland is overactive, as too much thyroid hormone is being produced and that a person will experience certain signs and symptoms that are typically associated with this problem. In healthy people, the thyroid gland will manufacture just the right amount of two hormones that have certain metabolic functions throughout the body.

It would include such things as how many calories we burn, how warm we are, and how much we weigh as it basically runs our metabolism. It could mean that a person may be feeling hotter than other people and may be slowly losing weight in spite of eating more, or slowly gaining weight as there is an increase in appetite. They are likely to experience fatigue by evening, but then have difficulty sleeping.
