Lipoprotein (a) (Lpa) - This consists of LDL particles bound to apolipoprotein a by a disulphide bridge. Lipoprotein (a) is seen to be a risk factor for the development of ischaemic cardiovascular disease. Levels of Lipoprotein (a) are often genetically determined. This test is often advised if the patient has a moderate to high risk of cardiovascular disease.
